Blog: Recent visit to Ozarks Aglow Brings a New Sprinkle of Nighttime Magic to Shepherd of the Hills!

On our recent visit to Shepherd of the Hills, we witnessed the Ozarks take on an entirely different appearance after the sun goes down, and a new nighttime experience at The Shepherd of the Hills is inviting guests to see the region’s stories, scenery, and heritage, and patriotism in a whole new light, literally...

Ozarks Aglow is an enchanted nighttime walking experience featuring illuminated displays inspired by the natural beauty, folklore, wildlife, and characters of the Ozark Mountains.

A Glowing Journey Through the Ozarks
Rather than functioning as a traditional stage production or thrill attraction, Ozarks Aglow allows guests to explore the historic Shepherd of the Hills property at their own pace.
The approximately half-mile walking route travels through wooded areas filled with colorful lanterns, glowing pathways, and larger-than-life displays.

Among the displays are characters and imagery inspired by Harold Bell Wright’s (who actually served as a minister in my hometown) famous novel and the outdoor drama it inspired. Guests may recognize references to figures such as the Shepherd and Little Pete, along with artistic interpretations of the rugged landscape that helped make the story a lasting part of Branson’s identity.
The result is an experience that feels distinctly connected to its location. While lantern festivals can be found in several destinations, Ozarks Aglow places the culture, history, and natural beauty of this region at the center of the attraction.

More Than a Collection of Lights
The most interesting part of Ozark's Aglow was that the displays were not simply decorations placed along a trail but rather created a journey of storytelling with interactive elements and audio enhancements.
We traveled between scenes featuring animals, plants, people, and recognizable regional imagery, with each area offering a new setting to explore and photograph. The wooded surroundings also contribute to the atmosphere, allowing the illuminated artwork to stand out against the darkness of the historic homestead.

This Event Expands A Different Side of Shepherd of the Hills
The Shepherd of the Hills is one of Branson’s most historic entertainment destinations. The property is best known for its outdoor drama based on Harold Bell Wright’s 1907 novel, but it has continued to expand with adventure attractions, seasonal events, live entertainment, and family activities.

A Great Spring/Summer Addition to a Branson Evening
Originally introduced as a spring event, the attraction has been extended on select evenings through July 31, giving Branson visitors another opportunity to experience it this summer. Tickets are $17.99 for ages 3-12 and $19.99 for ages 12+.
Hurry, this attraction's run ends soon, and you do not want to miss it!
